Looking at society at large, migrant and ethnic minority women are belonging to the most excluded and vulnerable groups in Europe. The SPIN Women project is designed to address these needs by enhancing the participation of migrant and minority women and girls in sport and recreational physical activities.

This includes capacity-building and empowerment activities increasing the qualification and skills of female sport actors and multipliers, raising awareness activities, the collection of data on barriers for women and the training of trainers to get active for social inclusion in and through sport.

About the Training

This train-the-trainer seminar will take place over a period of two days in Berlin.

The aim of the training is: 

  • To gain insight into mechanisms that promote or limit participation of migrant, minority and refugee women in sport and physical activity; playing, volunteering or management roles;
  • To provide the participants with practical tools, information and best practices on sport promotion for migrant women and on mentoring the development of leadership skills of migrant and refugee women in sport.

Who we are looking for: 

  • You are active in the field of sports either as a volunteer or a professional;
  • You are already implementing activities to achieve or are interested in achieving more sport participation of migrant women/girls;
  • You are an official, trainer, advisor, youth coordinator or sports organiser and you act as a multiplier in any sense;
  • You are in a position to either stimulate, engage or guide grassroots sport organisations;
  • You are a trainer or advisors who trains and supports sport coaches and board members (or other volunteers) of local sport initiatives (including gyms, swimming pools, judo schools etc.) focusing on sport participation and development of leadership skills of migrant women;
  • You want to learn more about and raise awareness in the area of the promotion of gender equality and diversity in your area.

What we provide

We provide a two days training in Berlin covering the following ares:

1. Learning more on barriers and success stories of migrant/minority women and girls in sport (data and research)
2. Raising awareness and understanding gender equality and equality in sport (background and manifestations of gender inequality in different areas in sport)
3. Getting to know interactive methods to raise awareness on the importance of equal participation (practical session with role plays, bias activities etc)
4. Exchange on case studies and best practices in different countries (hearing and discussing examples from Berlin and Ireland in the areas of mentoring/leadership and coach education).
5. Learning from each other with other multiplies, trainers, organisers from other European countries working in similar areas (networking sessions and open discussions)

What am I required to do after the training?

Trainers having taken part in the train the trainer seminar will then work alongside their SPIN Women project partner for their own country, to facilitate the running of follow-up multiplier training sessions / workshop seminars.

Schedule: The trainings starts Saturday 30 November 2019 12:00 (participants arrive in Berlin latest by 10:30). The training ends Sunday 1 December 16.30 (participants depart earliest at 17.00 from Berlin)
Costs: The training is free of costs; travel, accommodation and food is provided by the project
